The LA fires: how Khalsa Aid is helping

Since the 7th January, fires have ravaged through parts of Los Angeles, and have yet to be contained. 180,000 residents have been evacuated. Khalsa Aid USA deployed a team of volunteers residing in LA to distribute water and care for those affected.

The LA wildfires, or the Kenneth fire, have ravaged through parts of Los Angeles, and have yet to be contained. Most of the western United States has been vulnerable to disaster due to a drought spanning two years. In addition to the effects of climate change and the whipping Santa Ana winds coming in from the east, the damage has been relentless. 180,000 residents have been evacuated.

The Khalsa Aid Southern California team visited several shelters and evacuation centres last night, delivering water, hygiene items, medications, and non-perishable goods to those impacted by the ongoing fires. Teams also collaborated with these centres to help organise and provide essential support in the form of water distribution.

"So far, in the initial terrifying 36 hours, we have partnered with Pan Pacific Recreation Center, The Reality Center, Black Lantern, YMCA Koreatown, Silverlake Lounge, All Saints Episcopal Church, Arcardia Community Center, Friends in Deed, Fearless Church - all remarkable groups who are on the mainlines helping evacuees from the fires. We’ve been on the ground fuelling distribution centres with additional resources, and running them to evacuation centers and shelters."

Moving forward, the team is committed to offering continuous assistance in the coming days to ensure ongoing relief for those affected. In the meantime, we ask donors and supporters from the US to please reach out to local shelters, ask what resources they may need and donate where you can.
