An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck near Sivrice, Turkey in February 2023, causing widespread devastation in both countries. Thousands in Şanlıurfa and İslâhiye were displaced and infrastructure was severely damaged. It is now considered the deadliest earthquake in Turkey since the 526 Byzantine Antioch earthquake. Khalsa Aid International swiftly mobilised a global response to the humanitarian crisis.
Initially, volunteers provided hot meals to those displaced by the earthquake. However, as the immediate effects of the earthquake subsided, the nature of the required aid began to change.
Khalsa Aid’s volunteers are still on the ground in Turkey and in Syria, providing essential aid relief and sustained support to those impacted.
In İslâhiye, 400 food packs were distributed to Adiyaman camps, and 100 were distributed to Gaziantep and Altar. [BCF collaborated]
Khalsa Aid worked to distribute food packs in the villages around İslâhiye where people were displaced.
Teams based in Şanlıurfa and İslâhiye served 3000 hot meals daily. Volunteers provided 2000+ food packs and 19,000+ hot meals.

One of Khalsa Aid's primary areas of focus is providing immediate relief during natural disasters and conflicts. When disasters like earthquakes, floods, or tsunamis strike, Khalsa Aid is often among the first organizations on the ground, distributing food, water, medical supplies, and shelter to affected populations.
