The 2024 Central European floods are an ongoing series of flooding caused by a record heavy rainfall generated by Storm Boris.
Amidst the lives lost with the collapse of a dam between Stronie and Lądek-Zdrój, the Polish town of Glucholazy was ravaged of properties and possessions on September 18th 2024. With little to no preparations made pre-flooding by government authorities, Glucholazy was left devastated and in disarray, debris and mud strewn across their roads.
Khalsa Aid deployed a team to the city within three days to respond with relief clean up kits, a hot meal service for volunteers and local army aid. Relief kits consisted of 2 brooms, 30 shovels, 30 buckets and 50 pairs of gloves.
Across Europe, floods are becoming the most common natural disaster to cease and destroy normal life. While flood defences held, ongoing clean-up efforts required continued support, and further assessments are to be conducted to ensure we are doing enough to prevent or mitigate the consequences of flooding.
One of Khalsa Aid's primary areas of focus is providing immediate relief during natural disasters and conflicts. When disasters like earthquakes, floods, or tsunamis strike, Khalsa Aid is often among the first organizations on the ground, distributing food, water, medical supplies, and shelter to affected populations.
