In the September 8, 2023, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake caused widespread devastation, with over 2,497 fatalities and 1,800 injuries. Infrastructure damage disrupted rescue efforts and power outages hampered relief coordination. Landslides in the High Atlas Mountains created additional challenges. Affected areas, including Marrakesh, Tinghir, Youssoufia, Casablanca, Agadir, urgently needed humanitarian assistance.
Khalsa Aid was active on the ground from September 9th to 25th, 2023 to conduct needs-assessments and distribute essential supplies. During their next visit in October, the team continued to deliver aid and temporary shelter.
The main goal was to alleviate immediate suffering, restore normalcy, and contribute to the relief and recovery efforts in partnership with local authorities.
Our teams provided 27 temporary shelters for families who had lost their homes, as well as up to 200 light sources distributed in Ait Taleb Village. The project also included initiatives to bring comfort by distributing books, toys and 52 blankets.

One of Khalsa Aid's primary areas of focus is providing immediate relief during natural disasters and conflicts. When disasters like earthquakes, floods, or tsunamis strike, Khalsa Aid is often among the first organizations on the ground, distributing food, water, medical supplies, and shelter to affected populations.
