Cyclone Freddy Relief

Project summary

Tropical Cyclone Freddy's second landfall in Mozambique on March 11th caused devastating floods and mudslides in southern Malawi and eastern Madagascar. Our team of volunteers in the UK assembled and distributed the food parcels over several days, covering people who lived in five different districts in Malawi and three communities in Madagascar.

How we are helping

The weather system moved over the land as a tropical depression, bringing torrential rainfall, heavy winds, and other destructive weather conditions that have resulted in a humanitarian crisis in Malawi. In an effort to bypass the long-term effects of the cyclone on Malawi, Khalsa Aid consistently supply food.

In March 2023, 2,300 beneficiaries were supplied food parcels containing food to support a family for an average of 3 weeks.

Then, in November 2024, The team distributed 700 packs of flour, each weighing 10kg, to 700 families in the aftermath of a disruptive cyclone in the Mangochi district.

Impact so far

One of Khalsa Aid's primary areas of focus is providing immediate relief during natural disasters and conflicts. When disasters like earthquakes, floods, or tsunamis strike, Khalsa Aid is often among the first organizations on the ground, distributing food, water, medical supplies, and shelter to affected populations.
