Bartella, a small Orthodox Christian town in Northern Iraq, was devastated by ISIS' reign of terror in 2014. ISIS were expelled from the town in October 2016, and its resilient people appealed for help from Khalsa Aid in 2017 to assist with the community's recovery.
As part of ongoing work in the region, Khalsa Aid volunteers were deployed in Bartella to restore electricity to the town. Thanks to donations, a large electricity generator was installed in the town. After years of ISIS' control, buildings were reclaimed at long last - including a local Assyrian community church.
Enjoying it as a community hub once again, this was a great boost in morale for a resilient, strong people that had endured unimaginable cruelty over the years.
