Winter Jacket Drive

Project summary

For five years, Khalsa Aid Canada has hosted Winter Jacket Drive across Canada to distribute warm winter clothes for international students and other vulnerable youth in need. This year in particular was in honour of martyrs Mata Gujri Kaur, mother of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and the Chote Sahibzade, the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

What the problem is

The project impacted newly-arrived international students to inform them of the cold winters within the country and boost awareness of the support networks they can utilise while they are abroad. Many were introduced in some locations to community law enforcement officers, immigration consultants, other Sikh organizations, mental health groups and local politicians.

How we are helping

Khalsa Aid Canada provided 985 winter jackets in 12 locations across Canada to newly arrived international students. These locations include Victoria, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Sudbury and Halifax.
