Langar Aid joined the 35th St Basils Sleepout in Birmingham, serving hot meals to participants spending a night outdoors in solidarity with young people experiencing homelessness. Our partnership with St Basils is rooted in dignity, community and consistent action.
On Friday evening, Langar Aid returned to Birmingham for the 35th St Basils Sleepout, a long-running event that raises awareness and support for young people experiencing homelessness. Since our involvement began in 2017, the focus has remained simple: show up, serve food, and stand with the community.
More than 400 people took part in the Sleepout, and our team served hot meals throughout the evening. The serving line became a space of small conversations, shared smiles and quiet 'thank-yous', the kind of human moments that give this event meaning year after year.
A Night of Solidarity
Participants built cardboard shelters and stayed outdoors to highlight the challenges faced by young people who don’t have safe accommodation. The Sleepout isn’t intended to replicate homelessness; it asks people to confront it with empathy and awareness.
Many attendees also brought food donations for Langar Aid. These contributions strengthen community support well beyond the event and help us continue our work throughout the year.
Recognising Long-Term Support
This year marked the final Sleepout for Steven Rainbow and St Basils CEO Jean Templeton, whose steady commitment has shaped the event and the community around it. Their dedication has helped keep young people at the centre of the conversation, not as statistics but as individuals who deserve safety, opportunity and respect.
Grateful for Your Support
A big thank you to everyone who cooked, queued, served, donated food, built shelters and stood together for a cause that matters.
Your actions speak louder than any campaign or headline.
