In a heartwarming act of compassion and unity, the Sikh Sangat of Singapore, with the support of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara and the Young Sikh Association, raised S$54,155.77 to help families affected by the 2025 Panjab floods. The effort, inspired and led by two young girls, Sahiba and Rasna, brought the community together in a remarkable spirit of seva and solidarity.

A Small Idea that Sparked a Wave of Compassion

What began as a simple idea from two young girls to prepare and sell mathie, a traditional Panjabi snack, quickly grew into a community movement of hope and humanity. Determined to make a difference, Sahiba and Rasna planned, prepared, and organised everything a week before their big day, turning Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Singapore, into a bustling hub of volunteer energy.

The initiative was not just about fundraising; it was about compassion in action. Volunteers from all walks of life came together to peel, knead, fry, and pack hundreds of kilograms of mathie, and other savouries, each infused with the shared spirit of love and service.

A Day of Unity and Giving

On 14 September 2025, the Gurdwara grounds came alive with the aroma of freshly made mathie along with other savouries and the heartfelt energy of the Sangat. People contributed generously, knowing that every purchase would directly help flood-affected families in Panjab rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

The event echoed with messages of resilience and hope:

“Storms may come, but the courage of our souls will never sink.”

And, a powerful call that united everyone in spirit:

“Chardikala vich raho Punjabio, Chardikala!” (Stay in eternal optimism, people of Panjab!)

Humanity Without Borders

This extraordinary effort, led by Sahiba, Rasna, and the Singapore Sangat, stands as a shining example of how compassion transcends borders. It reminded everyone that when humanity calls, no distance is too great to serve.

Through their selfless seva and unwavering Chardikala spirit, the Sikh Sangat of Singapore proved that even the smallest act of kindness can ripple across oceans, turning empathy into action and hope into healing.
